Emmet County forms the northernmost part of the Lower Peninsula. It was initially part of Mackinac County, but it became independent in 1853. The county was initially named “Tonedagana County.” Emmet County has a population size of approximately 33,000 people. Its total area is 295,040 acres, which includes primarily forests and pastures. It also contains about 70 miles of Lake Michigan.
