Mason County is one of several counties that form the western border of Michigan. Its westernmost border ends at Lake Michigan, making it a prime destination for tourism. The county's seat and largest city is Ludington. Mason County was founded in 1840, but it wasn't organized until about 15 years later. In 2010, its population size was 28,700.
