Jackson County was formed in 1829. It is named after former president Andrew Jackson. Like several other counties in Michigan, it is called a “cabinet county.” Cabinet counties were named after members of President Jackson's cabinet. Over 160,000 residents call Jackson County home. Its county seat and largest city is Jackson.
