Clare County is located in the middle of the Lower Peninsula. Its motto is “Where the North Begins.” Clare County is home to around 31,000 people. Its county seat is Harrison. The county was initially called “Michilimacknic County,” but it was renamed in 1843 after County Clare in Ireland. Nearly all (98%) of the county's total area is land.
